IT and hardware recycling
Our IT and hardware recycling services provide secure collection and recycling of all electrical and electronic equipment, with all waste processed in the UK. We also provide three levels of GDPR compliant data destruction for hard drives and associated data. Our electrical equipment recycling service has a zero to landfill policy, meaning the IT and hardware recycling we collect – from monitor screens to hard plastic – is processed and recycled. In the extreme event of us not being able to recycling something, we’ll dispose of it according to the WEEE Directive.
The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive
The WEEE Directive, introduced in 2003, means any electrical equipment can’t be treated as general waste and placed in regular bins. This is to avoid this kind of waste ending up in landfill sites, where the chemicals from electrical equipment can end up in streams and rivers, poisoning aquatic life and plants. WEEE sets collection, recycling and recovery targets for all types of electrical and electronic equipment, and imposes the responsibility upon companies, by establishing an infrastructure for collecting WEEE.
How our IT and hardware recycling works
We’ve invested a lot of time into our IT and hardware recycling services, to make them exceptionally customer friendly. We can either come to your site to determine what waste needs collecting, or you can complete our simple log sheet. We’ll then know if there are any hazardous items, or hard drives and data that need to be securely destroyed, so we can raise any relevant paperwork and give you an idea of how much it will cost. When we collect your IT and hardware recycling, we’ll make an itemised list and confirm any data destruction before we remove your equipment and take it to our secure recycling facility.
All of our vehicles are satellite tracked and monitored 24/7 and our secure destruction, recycling and shredding facility is alarmed and monitored 24/7 by CCTV. Our people are fully trained, highly professional, uniformed and vetted to BS7858:2012. They also carry photo ID, so you can have complete peace of mind when you entrust us with your IT recycling.
Fully audited IT recycling service
From start to finish, our service is fully audited and transparent. We recycle your equipment at our state-of-the-art recycling facility in Newbury, Berkshire, conforming to the WEEE Directive, and log information for you with the Environmental Agency. We provide a detailed report of all the equipment we recycle, and a Certificate of Destruction for any data we’ve destroyed.
Unlike many other commercial waste recycling and destruction companies, we never sell and export any of the equipment we collect outside of the UK. You may have heard of large electrical waste dumps in Africa, where children get injured and water systems become polluted. You can be assured that will never be the case with any electrical equipment we collect from you. We’re exceptionally proud of our ethical values and our fully audited, honest and transparent IT recycling service.
Secure hard drive destruction - Compliance to the EU General Data Protection Regulation
We offer three levels of secure hard drive destruction, to keep our clients GDPR compliant, where we can collect your hard drives for shredding and/or degaussing at our BS EN 15713:2009 approved secure facility. In each instance, we’ll transport the hard drives in one of our satelite tracked vehicles, driven by our vetted, uniformed staff, perform high-security destruction and provide you with a Certificate of Destruction (CoD).
Degaussing is a form of demagnetising. A magnetic object, for example a computer tape or hard disk drive, is exposed to a magnetic field of greater, fluctuating intensity, which resets the magnetic charge to a neutral state, rendering it unusable.
Level 1 Minimum Service
High-security shredding with CoD
We collect your hard drives, complete the secure destruction note, detailing the numbers collected, and take them back to our secure facility in Newbury, Berkshire. The hard drives are then shredded using our HSM shredder. We provide you with full WEEE documentation and CoD.
Level 2 Premium Service
High-security shredding with full itemisation
We collect your hard drives, complete the secure destruction note, detailing the numbers collected and take them back to our secure facility. We then complete an asset list report of all serial numbers and log asset tags, shred the hard drives, using our HSM hard drive shredder. Full WEEE documentation and CoD with asset listing is then generated and sent to the client.
Level 3 Platinum Service
Two stage secure destruction - Approved degaussing and HDD shred with asset list
The serial number of the HDD is scanned and logged creating the asset list report, the HDD is then sent through our Garner degaussing unit destroying the magnetically held data. The two stage process is then completed with the physical shred of the HDD. The shredded hard drives are then processed for recycling. We provide you with full WEEE documentation and CoD with asset listing.
